VILLAGE FLAVOUR

Melted Chocolate

What’s your name?
Lourdes.

Do you have any nick-names?
I do, my nickname since I was born is “Booboo.”

What do you do?
I am the founder of two non-profits and I run two businesses in Calgary. I am the founder of the Leftovers Foundation and co-founder at Moonlight Market Foundation, I run Soma Hammam and Spa, so I started that six years ago, and then I’m the director of my own urban planning consulting company called Hive Developments.

What is your dream job?
You know, I love what I’m doing now. I’m pretty happy being an entrepreneur, and I love what I’m doing now.

Born in YYC?
I was born in St. Albert, Alberta, but I moved to Calgary when I was two moths old.

What do you love most about Calgary?
I love the entrepreneurial spirit that Calgary has to offer. Great brands come from here, really great companies can sustain themselves here. Calgary’s scene is very supportive, encouraging, and forgiving, so we have a really great climate to be an entrepreneur.

How would you describe your (fashion) style?
My schedule is really full, so I have to make sure that I’m wearing pieces that are versatile. I try to stick to really classic pieces and I keep it pretty casual.

Does anyone influence your style?
Not really. My cousin Casandra, I call her the “head of Nordstrom” and she sort of styles and dresses me to fit my schedule and my lifestyle. If anything, I look to her for advice.

What’s the latest TV series that you’ve binge-watched?
Oh my gosh, too many. I binge watch them by myself because Kelsy doesn’t watch TV. Kim’s Convenience was the last one that I binge-watched. Season one. It’s amazing, it’s so funny. The last one on Netflix that I binge-watched was Master of None, season two.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
You know, I wrote my thesis in Friedberg, which is in Germany, and I haven’t been back for, maybe 12 years. So that’s pretty high on my list.

What is your first or best memory of Village Ice Cream?
The best memory I have of Village is when I got the call to pick up 200 pints of ice cream that Village was donating to the Leftovers Foundation and we re-routed all of that to: In From the Cold, and the Women’s Shelter, and the Mustard Seed, and a bunch of after-school programs for kids. It was really great to just have that community collaboration, and we were super excited to pick up 200 pints!

What location?
Victoria Park!

What’s your favourite flavour and why?
Oh I was just saying! My favourite flavour, it’s a seasonal flavour, called Oaxacan chili chocolate, and it’s so delicious. It’s like, spicy and sweet at the same time. It’s so good.

If you could share a Village Ice Cream with anyone in the world, who would it be?
I actually love sharing Village ice cream with my niece and nephew, Atticus and Penelope. They don’t get a lot of sweet treats, so I’m “that” aunt, for sure.
